Salman Avestimehr

Salman Avestimehr is a Dean's Professor of ECE and CS at the University of Southern California, where he also serves as the inaugural director of the USC-Amazon Center on Trustworthy AI. He is also a serial entrepreneur and co-founder of FedML (a top-ranking open-source library for federated machine learning), TensorOpera AI (a full-stack AI platform), ChainOpera AI (a blockchain AI platform for agent networks), and Teamily AI (the first human + AI social platform). He received his Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from UC Berkeley, and his research spans information theory, decentralized and federated machine learning, and trustworthy machine learning. A widely recognized leader in his field, Dr. Avestimehr has received numerous prestigious honors including the James L. Massey Research and Teaching Award from the IEEE Information Theory Society, a Joint Paper Award from the IEEE Information Theory and Communication Societies, a Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers (PECASE) presented by President Obama, and the David J. Sakrison Memorial Prize. He is a Fellow of IEEE.
